CEYLON Kirkoswald Estate FBOP
The Kirkoswald Estate FBOP produces a Uva Ceylon of excellent charateristics. It has good leaf appearance and produces a full bodied lovely flavored tea. In the cup it is coppery bright with golden notes.
Winds blow across the Indian Ocean they pick-up moisture during the 3000 mile journey to Sri Lanka. As the warm moist air rises into the cool mountain air condensation occurs and there is heavy rainfall on the western side of the island. The Eastern side gets very little rain but lots of sunshine. The Uva district, where the Kirkoswald estate lies, is on the east side of the island and consequently being in the rain shadow the quality improves dramatically.
Teas that come from high grown estates in this region always provide superior flavor and the best quality because: cooler temperatures, generally better soil conditions, more sunshine, generally slightly less rainfall – These conditions cause the bush to grow more slowly and the goodness and flavor is concentrated in the new shoots.
Excellent black tea. Taken with milk (2% or whole):
Coppery and rich with subtle earthy/woody tones and some orange too. Decent caffeine hit if brewed for 5 mins or so. Very refreshing on palate for a medium/strong black tea. Recommend drinking warm to appreciate flavours (i.e. not piping hot, so a bit cooler than I would drink a standard English breakfast/asam!)
